Not anywhere it should be. Totally going to tackle taxes later, so boring, such a juvenile response to so mundane a task - but here is my mind for the moment:

re: underdogs (TOO MUCH UNEMPLOYED TIME)

but I am such an underdog myself that I can't imagine being any help other than in my ability to say as much...

I am an underdog easily seduced by the prospects and opportunities of no longer being an underdog - a real underdog might just accept underdog status permanently, right? Also, underdogs are threatened by other underdogs, right? A needy case fearful of introducing a needier case that might steal his/her pity party? That's why we should all just appeal to the state, as much as being a number is scary, it is far scarier to lose even those rights, right? Trust me, it is happening to me now and is frightening.

really hard. Also difficult because sometimes just sympathizing for the underdog completely negates the values of the system in place that is undervaluing them. What I mean to say is, let's pretend this is a sh*tty romantic comedy, maybe the protagonist just REALLY doesn't want the underdog, there is just nothing that is going to change that, and the amount of injustice it would be to doom them to the underdog is more criminal than what ever factors may have defined the underdog as such. Maybe this is a slippery slope to rewarding behavior and conduct that destroys the very society we are using to reward said underdog in the first place. Maybe that's valuable if you want to hit the social reboot button, but that might also mean that you are undermining the value of your reward, right?

p.s. how are we defining underdog? I define it by agency and/or lack of persuasive power. Mostly in terms of ability to garner autonomy and independence... Anyone capable of swaying, or willing to take such things, is defined, in my mind, as the opposite since it is not defined in terms of potential, but in terms of actual live possibility.

But why can't it all just be fun? Because people with power like to monopolize it and are afraid of losing their clout when anyone votes against the traditional best or the traditional reward system. Still, none of this matters when you are laying in bed with anyone who cares enough to make you forget this, and it is the fear of losing that security that makes it hard to root for the underdog when you have enough to keep you feeling neutral, right? Really this all just makes it more and more clear why transcending class is a slippery slope to the 70s where plastic surgery made many women look like aliens and a recession ensued. "in defense of Elitism" is a difficult but worthwhile read that really highlights the tension between a meritocracy, which only seems fair to those who put work in, but then, as I always say, there is the issue of opportunity. Not everyone gets those... I know, but again, as I said, it might be a graver injustice to pin an underdog to his/her side when the position really isn't warranted.

Rallying for the underdog just might end up in a revolving door of upperclass pets...

Here is a dumb thought: Therapy, at least as much as I have been exposed to, is rooted in almost narcissistic individualism, which works well for an individual with funding and perpetuates an elite that could not otherwise exist and that goes entirely against religious empathy. That said, isn't the wild, being poor, supposed to direct people towards survival of the fittest? And yet a religion like catholicism is considered the opiate of the masses...
